OVERVIEW

Environmental sustainability is increasingly important across Rotary District 7030. Our District spans Small Island Developing States and coastal territories throughout the Caribbean and Guianas, where communities face shared environmental challenges including stronger hurricanes, sea-level rise, coastal erosion, flooding, water insecurity, biodiversity loss, pollution and unsustainable waste management practices.

These challenges do not exist in isolation. Healthy mangroves help protect coastlines and communities; healthy watersheds influence freshwater ecosystems and downstream coastal environments; and effective waste management can reduce the pollution entering rivers, wetlands and the sea. Addressing these issues therefore requires coordinated, evidence-based action that considers both the wider ecosystem and the communities that depend upon it.

The Rotary District 7030 Environmental Sustainability Programme 2026/27 provides a framework through which Rotary Clusters can work collaboratively to address these challenges while creating measurable and sustainable environmental impact.

Rather than focusing on one-time environmental activities, the programme encourages projects that are needs-based, collaborative, data-driven and designed for long-term sustainability. Each cluster will select the environmental challenge most relevant to its communities, available expertise and potential partnerships, allowing resources and efforts to be directed toward meaningful and measurable action.

Projects are encouraged to incorporate environmental and community needs assessments, baseline information, clear Key Performance Indicators, strategic partnerships, youth and community engagement, education, monitoring and long-term stewardship. Clusters are also encouraged to work alongside government agencies, environmental organisations, academic institutions, technical experts, community organisations and the private sector.
