7030 MOVES FOR COP – A DISTRICT 7030 CHILDHOOD OBESITY PREVENTION CAMPAIGN

INITIATIVE #1: 70/30 PHYSICAL ACTIVITY CHALLENGE:

An important requirement for this challenge is that all activities involve kids wherever possible! Get the children involved whether they are your own children, nieces, nephews, neighbors, students, etc.! Rotary Clubs are encouraged to include their sponsored Interact, EarlyAct or RotaKids clubs in as many activities as possible.

Under the 7030 Moves for COP campaign, the first initiative in which members and clubs can engage will take the form of a physical activity challenge which plays on our District’s number (70-30). From 24th January through 28th February 2022, members and clubs are asked to plan and execute an activity of their choice that incorporates and/or cumulatively amounts to the figures “70” and “30”. This can happen in many different ways and is relatively open to what you as an individual or group think is best for those involved. Here are some examples:

  • Group Activity: Cumulatively walk/run/cycle a total of 70 miles in one day with 30 persons (including kids) participating
  • Group Activity: Cumulatively dance for a total of 70 minutes in one day with 30 persons (including kids) participating
  • Individual Activity: Individually walk/run/cycle a total of 70 miles over 30 hours/days (such can also be done in small groups including kids)
  • Group or Individual Activity: Cumulatively do a total of 70 short physical activities over 30 hours/days (this can be 70 persons doing one activity or fewer person doing multiple activities)
Please note that persons should consult their physician before beginning a new exercise program or unduly exerting themselves. Any group fitness activities should be led by a certified fitness professional.

Recognizing the different recommended physical activity levels and physical abilities of participating members and other individuals, please note that the type of activity you choose is flexible and can take different formats such as walking, jogging, running, swimming, dancing, skipping, participating in a fitness class or a sport, or...
  • Be creative and invent your own activity…particularly one in which children can participate where appropriate. For example:
    • Do pushups or sit-ups (with your child)
    • Play jump-rope or hop-scotch (with your child)
    • Climb some stairs (with your child)
How much physical activity should you be getting to gain significant health benefits and mitigate health risks?

The World Health Organization Physical Activity Guidelines provides an excellent overview of evidence-based public health recommendations for children, adolescents, adults and older adults on the amount of physical activity (frequency, intensity and duration) needed! The guidelines even provide recommendations for special subpopulations such as pregnant and postpartum women, and people living with chronic conditions or disability.

Remember the idea is to get us all moving in some way and to involve children as much as possible.

…and don’t forget to  take and send pictures while moving with your kids! Participating members and clubs are encouraged to take pictures or short videos of themselves or their groups engaged in challenge activities. These photos and videos should also be appropriately shared to club and personal social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram) and include all the following hashtags:
  1. #District7030Moves
  2. #WorldObesityDay
  3. #ThisIsHowIMove
  4. #EverybodyNeedsToAct
*Feel free to directly tag the district in your social media posts as well using @RotaryDistrict7030 on Facebook and Instagram. Selected photos and videos will be featured on the District 7030 Facebook page and on the District 7030 website.

NB:- In planning and organizing any individual or group activity, safety is paramount! Therefore, in addition to consulting with their respective physician before beginning a new exercise program or unduly exerting themselves, participants and clubs are also reminded to check, verify and apply any and all existing COVID-19 protocols and restrictions, as well as, ensure that activities and activity routes are safe and appropriate for all ages and participants.

INITIATIVE #3: ROTARY DISTRICT 7030 1ST ANNUAL OBESITY AWARENESS MOVEMENT:

As the 3rd 7030 Movies for COP campaign initiative, Rotary District 7030 presents the 1st Annual Obesity Awareness Movement on Sunday 6th March 2022. Focused on raising obesity awareness among communities, this day has also been designated as an official Rotary Day of Service and encourages all members and friends of our Rotary District 7030 family to participate.

The idea and goal on this day is to bring persons together under the spirit of Rotary fellowship and get them physically active and moving whether on their own, in small groups or as a club.

So…whether virtual or in-person, on your own, with family, friends or other members of the District 7030 family, persons participating in this initiative are asked to do a local 5k walk, run or jog while wearing their Rotary gear (polos, t-shirts, caps, etc.). As always, please involve children in this activity as much as possible – Rotary clubs can even seek to join up with their sponsored Interact, EarlyAct or RotaKids clubs where appropriate.

…and don’t forget to  take and send pictures while participating with kids! Participating members and clubs are encouraged to take pictures or short videos of themselves or their groups engaged in the movement. These photos and videos should also be appropriately shared to club and personal social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram) and include all the following hashtags:

INITIATIVE #4: SUPPORT THE DISTRICT 7030 COP FUND

To assist both club and district COP activities and projects over the next Rotary year, a District 7030 COP Fund has been established with the specific goal of providing much needed capital to realize some of the great COP ideas and undertakings in our region and in local communities.

As the 4th 7030 Moves for COP campaign initiative, members and clubs are therefore asked and encouraged to make a contribution to help jump start the District 7030 COP Fund – all contribution amounts are welcome.

Member and/or club contributions may be derived from various sources, including:

  • Existing club community service or administrative funds
  • Requested donations from members, friends, colleagues and family
  • Portion of proceeds from past or upcoming club fundraisers
  • Pledges by individuals or organization/company of participants in challenge activity (initiative #1) and/or awareness event (initiative #3)
    • Participating persons or groups may get a fixed amount for their collective achievement pledged – every mile covered, every day active, every child involved, etc.
    • Pledged amounts may be appropriately raised and collected by individuals or clubs
Please keep in mind that while several means of generating your contribution to the District 7030 COP Fund is possible, all efforts should be appropriate and fall within the principles, policies and practices of Rotary.

Once collected, any and all contributions to the District 7030 COP Fund may be made anytime via the District 7030 Donation Portal.

TRACKING & REPORTING YOUR ACTIVITIES

As part of the overall 7030 Moves for COP campaign, members and clubs are asked to track, record and report their activities. The intention is that there is an ongoing posting of each club’s or member’s achievement so that all members and other clubs can recognize and celebrate each other’s progress and maybe even foster a bit of healthy competition with each other.

There will be two systems in place to facilitate member and club progress tracking and reporting:

1) For Tracking:

District 7030 encourages participants to use the Count.it mobile app to gather and centralize all campaign physical activities.

The Count.it app is available for both Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as, accessible via your web browser and easily integrates with most physical activity or fitness mobile apps you may already have on your device.

So, whether for the challenge or movement initiatives, participants are asked and encouraged to download and install the Count.it app to their mobile device, watch the video below and follow these instructions.

After installing and creating an account with Cout.it, please click here to use the group invitation or to join the District 7030 group on Count.it using the group code 61949E85

By using this mobile app, you will not only be able to upload and track your own activities, but also, see what other activities are happening in the district and how persons and clubs are progressing.

2) For Reporting:
As a final step in your campaign participation, individuals and/or clubs are asked to report all activities undertaken for the challenge and/or movement initiatives, as well as, any contributions made to the District 7030 COP Fund.

Once activities are completed, information may be reported by visiting the District 7030 COP webpage to access the online submission form.
