Thanks to the overwhelming support of sponsors, volunteers, cooks, and visitors, the 2025 edition of the Quota Men Cook Out raised nearly US$150,000. More than SRD 1.9 million of these proceeds was allocated to the club's Small Projects Program, providing financial support to 26 social and community organizations throughout the country.
Rather than distributing funds without direction, organizations were invited to submit project proposals. A dedicated Rotary committee evaluated each application based on sustainability, functionality, community impact, and the number of people who would benefit. This approach ensures that every dollar invested creates meaningful and lasting change.
The diversity of the supported projects reflects the broad needs within Suriname's communities. Funding helped organizations purchase rehabilitation equipment, renovate kitchens and reading rooms, improve facilities for people with visual impairments, support children with disabilities, enhance residential care homes, and strengthen educational and social welfare programs.
The impact quickly became visible.
At Ramoth Children's Home, the donation made it possible to purchase a laptop, printer, and three fans, providing both educational resources and a more comfortable living environment for the children. In their heartfelt message to the club, the directors expressed their gratitude, assuring Rotary that the equipment would be put to excellent use in serving the children entrusted to their care.
In the western district of Nickerie, the Welzijn Instituut Nickerie (WiN) used its grant to purchase six wheelchairs and two walkers. These mobility aids immediately improved the quality of life for individuals who depend on the foundation's care and services, demonstrating how relatively modest investments can make an extraordinary difference.
Beyond the Small Projects Program, the proceeds from the Quota Men Cook Out also support larger Rotary Club of Paramaribo Quota initiatives, including Stuka Prisiri, a children's mentorship and talent development program; Heart for Women, which raises awareness of cardiovascular disease among women; and ongoing support for a shelter assisting women experiencing domestic violence.
This year also marked a special milestone for the club as Rotary Club of Paramaribo Quota celebrated its 5th anniversary. Presenting the grants during this anniversary celebration served as a powerful reminder that Rotary is not only about raising funds; it is about creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and improving lives.
For Rotary Club of Paramaribo Quota, the Quota Men Cook Out is far more than an annual event. It is a catalyst for hope, made possible through fellowship, community partnerships, and a shared commitment to Service Above Self.
