On Tuesday November 11th, 2022, one hundred and twenty-four families across the volcanic hazard red zone of SVG would receive housing repair support valued at EC$449,600. This initiative was made possible through a collaboration of two major Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in SVG, the Rotary family in St. Vincent and the St. George Lodge. The NGO’s have received financial support from numerous organizations and corporate entities, as well as their colleagues across the region as part of continued efforts to support the recovery and rehabilitation of families impacted by the recent volcanic eruptions.

This initiative was made possible through a collaboration of two major Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in SVG, the Rotary family in St. Vincent and the St. George Lodge. The NGO’s have received financial support from numerous organizations and corporate entities, as well as their colleagues across the region as part of continued efforts to support the recovery and rehabilitation of families impacted by the recent volcanic eruptions.
The organizations cognizant of the devastating impact on families by the La Soufriere volcano, decided to channel the funds to assist families with minor repairs to their homes. Earlier this year, they provided similar support in excess of EC$170,000 when they executed part one of their housing project. In this current tranche, each family will receive vouchers ranging from EC$1200 to EC$4,000 to be able to shop with the corporate partners, Coreas Hazels Inc and Kendra’s Aluminum Products Ltd. The vouchers can be used to purchase materials to repair roofs and to purchase doors and windows that were damaged during the volcanic eruptions in April 2021.
Worshipful Master of the St. George Lodge, Mr. Edmund Jackson has noted “We would like to extend our special gratitude to our regional counterparts, who created this excellent opportunity of assistance. With their assistance we have been able to coordinate seamlessly with the Rotary family to bring relief once again to families across SVG.”
Presidents of the local Rotary Clubs Family, Mr. Kurt Dougan and Mr. Daniel Campbell have both expressed how keen the local Rotary family is to welcome such a collaborative and direct impact initiative especially at this time during the rainy season where families are faced with challenges of leaking roofs caused by the volcanic eruptions.
Ms. Juliette Jacobs and Mr. Brian George of Kendra’s Aluminum Products and Coreas Hazells respectively in commenting on their companies’ involvement and contribution to the program highlighted that their businesses are always keen to support practical, positive programs such as this one by the Rotary family and St. George Lodge, which helps hundreds of families on their recovery journey. Both corporate entities provided 25% discount on the purchase of vouchers for the program.
The coordinator for the initiative, Rotary Assistant Governor, Shafia London added “Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service around the world. This program valued at half a million East Caribbean dollars is an example of how we can join hands to support communities with a shared future for humanity”
Over a hundred recipients were physically on hand to receive their vouchers. A few persons on behalf of the recipients expressed their sincere gratitude to the organizations for the initiative. The highly emotional words of appreciation shared by the beneficiaries was sound demonstration of the relevance and need of such an intervention.

It boasts a proud and long history dating to 1738 making it one of the oldest regions with masonic activity. One of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, the roots of modern Freemasonry lie with the medieval stonemasons that built our castles and cathedrals, yet it is as relevant today as it was hundreds of years ago. Freemasons use four important guiding principles to help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity.
Le mardi 11 novembre 2022, cent vingt-quatre familles de la zone rouge des risques volcaniques de SVG allaient recevoir une aide à la réparation de leur logement d'une valeur de 449 600 dollars EC. Cette initiative a été rendue possible grâce à la collaboration de deux importantes Organisations Non Gouvernementales (ONG) de SVG, la famille Rotary de Saint-Vincent et le St George Lodge. Les ONG ont reçu un soutien financier de la part de nombreuses organisations et personnes morales, ainsi que de leurs collègues de la région, dans le cadre des efforts continus déployés pour soutenir le rétablissement et la réhabilitation des familles touchées par les récentes éruptions volcaniques.
Les organisations, conscientes de l'impact dévastateur du volcan de la Soufrière sur les familles, ont décidé de canaliser les fonds pour aider les familles à effectuer des réparations mineures dans leurs maisons. Plus tôt dans l’année, elles ont fourni une aide similaire de plus de 170 000 dollars EC lorsqu'elles ont exécuté la première partie de leur projet de logement. Dans la tranche actuelle, chaque famille recevra des bons d'achat allant de 1 200 à 4 000 $EC pour pouvoir faire des achats auprès des entreprises partenaires, Coreas Hazels Inc et Kendra's Aluminum Products Ltd. Les bons peuvent être utilisés pour acheter des matériaux pour réparer les toits et pour acheter des portes et des fenêtres qui ont été endommagées lors des éruptions volcaniques d'avril 2021.
Le Respectable Propriétaire du St. George Lodge, M. Edmund Jackson, a déclaré : "Nous tenons à exprimer notre gratitude à nos homologues régionaux, qui ont créé cette excellente opportunité d'aide. Grâce à leur aide, nous avons été en mesure de coordonner de manière transparente avec la famille du Rotary afin de soulager une fois de plus les familles de SVG."
Les présidents des clubs locaux de la famille Rotary, M. Kurt Dougan et M. Daniel Campbell, ont tous deux exprimé l'enthousiasme de la famille Rotary locale à l'idée d'accueillir une telle initiative de collaboration et d'impact direct, en particulier en cette période de saison des pluies où les familles sont confrontées aux problèmes de fuites des toits causés par les éruptions volcaniques.
Mme Juliette Jacobs et M. Brian George, respectivement de Kendra's Aluminum Products et de Coreas Hazells, en commentant l'implication et la contribution de leurs entreprises au programme, ont souligné que leurs entreprises sont toujours prêtes à soutenir des programmes concrets et utiles tels que celui de la famille Rotary et du St. George Lodge, qui aide des centaines de familles dans leur parcours vers la reprise. Les deux entreprises ont accordé une remise de 25 % sur l'achat de bons pour le programme.
La coordinatrice de l'initiative, l’Adjoint du Gouverneure, Shafia London, a ajouté : "Le Rotary International est une organisation internationale de service dont l'objectif déclaré est de réunir des chefs d'entreprise et des professionnels pour fournir un service humanitaire dans le monde entier. Ce programme, d'une valeur d'un demi-million de dollars des Caraïbes orientales, est un exemple de la manière dont nous pouvons unir nos efforts pour soutenir les communautés en vue d'un avenir commun pour l'humanité".
Plus d'une centaine de bénéficiaires étaient présents pour recevoir leurs bons. Quelques personnes ont exprimé, au nom des bénéficiaires, leur sincère gratitude envers les organisations pour cette initiative. Les mots d'appréciation très émouvants partagés par les bénéficiaires ont démontré la pertinence et la nécessité d'une telle intervention.
Le Rotary Club de Saint-Vincent Sud, le Rotary Club de Saint-Vincent et le club Rotaract de Kingstown sont tous membres du Rotary District 7030 qui compte plus de 2 000 Rotariens répartis dans 73 clubs de 17 comtés et territoires de la Caraïbe du Sud.
