 | ROTARY DISTRICT 7030, working through Rotary Club of St. Vincent South, funded the rehabilitation and renovation of the building known as the Occupational Therapy Unit (OTU) at the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre in Glen. The intention was to transform the facility into a sanctuary for healing, hope and dignity for the patients. |
The project was funded at a cost of EC$53,000, and comprised the installation of air conditioners, Smart TV, folding table and chair sets to accommodate activities, various pieces of furniture, fixtures and décor items. Additionally, 4 outdoor picnic tables and umbrellas were also installed, along with the construction and mounting of an entrance security gate and the painting of the facility. Activity items for occupational therapy were also donated to include games, knitting tools, gardening equipment, yoga mats, floor mats, cooking utensils, and various indoor and outdoor games
The philosophy is that occupational therapy enables patients to engage in functional and recreational interventions in order to encourage patients with healing and recovery through stimulation.
Rotary is well satisfied to see the fulfillment of this project, and anticipate that this therapeutic environment will indeed be used as a resource to assist and stimulate patients so that they may more readily participate in daily life activities; even in the basics such as bathing, dressing, grooming.
The newly renovated facility was handed over by President of the Rotary Club of St. Vincent South, Kim Haydock, to the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environmental Health and Energy. The Hon. Daniel Cummings, Minister, gratefully accepted this endeavour on Tuesday, June 30th, 2026 on behalf of his ministry. The Director of the Mental Health Services, Dr. Alicia Alvis, and Nurse Kayashma Charles, welcomed the upgrade as a significant step towards empowering healing.
