During late November 2016, the Rotary Club of Stabroek partnered with the Peace Corps Guyana to host Bagotville's first CAMP BRO project at the Bagotville Community Centre. The concept of Camp Bro developed by Peace Corps Guyana is a project to develop character in young boys and was initially implemented as a one day camp for boys aged 9 to 14 year old and geared to make significant impact in their social lives.

The objective of the camp was to introduce ideas about emotional health, planning for the future, and proper treatment of women. Designed for small group attention with significant interaction and team building exercises, three group sessions were facilitated where the boys rotated their sitting in each group.

At the end of the sessions, the boys developed posters illustrating the new information that they learned, to be displayed in the community with a promise to share this knowledge and advocate these messages in their neighborhoods. Peace Corps Volunteers Anthony Skow, Rachel Ivancie, Germinal Inal Destine, Chantelle Comeau and Amaar Abdelgadaar facilitated all of the sessions which entailed presentations but was also very engaging.

As the project's main funding partner, the Rotary Club of Stabroek intends to continue collaborating with Peace Corps Guyana to strengthen this activity and propagate its implementation nation-wide through the involvement of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Cohesion. This will be a real catalyst for greater progress to considerably transform the lives of young boys and prepare them to be men who are highly productive elements of our society.

At the Closing Ceremony, certificates were presented as there were utters of high praise for the additional support received from Demerara Distilleries Ltd, Annabelle’s and Rambo Rental Services. The Bagotville Librarians Yonette Bishop and Carol Halley were also very instrumental with the identification of boys from Bagotville and nearby communities. A total of 26 boys attended the sessions, almost all having never been exposed to the topics in such an interactive way. Several boys lamented that there has never been an opportunity for them to talk and learn about life in this manner and think about as well as articulate what they desire as long term goals. At the end of sessions, each participant was interviewed to learn what was most impacting about CAMP BRO 2016.
