The Rotary Club of Garden City (Georgetown) launched its first “Little Free Community Library” on Sunday 4th September, 2022, to commemorate International Literacy Day which was observed on September 8th, 2022.
The Little Library, which is located in the compound of Cheshire Home, is aimed to serve the Mahaica Community.
The concept is to “Take a Book and Leave a Book”. However, persons can still borrow a book and return it, if they have no book to exchange. Members of the community were encouraged to utilize it, as the Library contains books for all ages. Literacy kits were also distributed to children in the community.
Basic Education and Literacy is one of the areas of focus of Rotary International and is the theme for the month of September. This Community Library is RC Garden City's demonstration of creating a community wide network of readers.

Le Rotary Club de Garden City (Georgetown) a lancé sa première " Little Free Community Library " (Petite Bibliothèque Communautaire Gratuite) le dimanche 4 septembre 2022, pour commémorer la Journée Internationale de l'Alphabétisation qui est célébrée le 8 septembre 2022. La Petite Bibliothèque, située dans l'enceinte du Cheshire Home, est destinée à servir la communauté de Mahaica.
Le concept est le suivant : "Prenez un Livre et Laissez-en Un". Cependant, les personnes peuvent toujours emprunter un livre et le rendre, si elles n'ont pas de livre à échanger. Les membres de la communauté sont encouragés à l'utiliser, car la bibliothèque contient des livres pour tous les âges. Des kits d'alphabétisation ont également été distribués aux enfants de la communauté.
L'Education de Base et l'Alphabétisation sont l'un des axes stratégiques du Rotary International et constituent le thème du mois de septembre. Cette Bibliothèque Communautaire est notre démonstration de la création d'un réseau de lecteurs à l'échelle de la communauté.
