St. John’s Antigua, 4th April 4 2017 – The Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown (RCAS) recently hosted its 4th Annual Autism Awareness Walk. Approximately 700 participants registered for the walk and over fifteen-thousand and counting raised.

“My experience with the Walks has just changed my life,” says Diana Browne, RCAS President-Elect and Chair of the Autism Walk Committee. “Fundraising is very important because that’s where we’re going to get the answers and the changes that we need to make in this society to help those with autism. It is imperative that we do all that we can to fundraise.”

“I want to thank all of the people who participated by coming out and walking, donating and volunteering to make this event an amazing day and to make a difference in the lives of families, children and individuals with autism. Our heartfelt gratitude also goes out to our wonderful corporate sponsors who made this walk possible – And they include: aut2know, Curtain Bluff Resort, Spilling Ink, Yao Antigua, Finance & Development Company Ltd., Jumby Bay Island Company, Lucozade, Alpen, American University of Antigua, Chase Distributors, Island Provision Ltd., and Epicurean.”

The RCAS Autism Awareness Walk started out as a Rotary project but has since become an annual event on the Rotary calendar. The funds raised has enabled RCAS to host a tennis program (Tennis with Samantha) for kids with autism and other intellectual disabilities, support the National Public Library and schools who cater for students with autism, host a screening and assessment clinic and public lectures for parents and teachers – all at no cost for individuals and families who are living with autism.

‘We want to thank the community for coming out and sharing in this very special day,” said Herald Rolland, RCAS President. “Rotary is proud to bring the autism community together and we’re looking forward to our fifth anniversary in hosting this walk.”
