Dear Fellow Rotarians,

This month’s reflections are on the Rotary Foundation, but more specifically on this strong, strong culture of giving that exists within our Rotary family, how it originated and how it permeates through to our future generation.

Building a culture of giving, one that is sustained, is a journey that unfolds over time. It is nurtured by thoughtful intention, meaningful actions, and the shining example of those who paved the way before us. So, if we take this all the way back, we can zoom in on Arch Klumph, the TRF Founder and consider how he has literally inspired a culture of giving for generations to come.  Rooted in Arch Klumph’s vision, our Rotary family effectively continues to be driven by his words: "We should not live for ourselves alone, but for the joy in doing good."

Arch Klumph, RI President 1916 – 1917 recognized that true fulfillment in life stems from selflessness and service to others.  So, in establishing The Rotary Foundation, he laid the groundwork for generations of Rotarians to catalyse positive change, empower communities, and embody the joy of simply doing good.

Everyone of us has seen how generosity can spark transformation on a global scale. It provides the structure and resources for individuals and clubs to create sustainable impact, from supporting education and health initiatives to promoting peace, fighting poverty and assisting with disaster relief efforts. By fostering that spirit of giving, the Foundation ensures that service remains central to Rotary’s mission.

Now, when we ensure that, that value of generosity is instilled as well in our young people, we are creating a movement and an army of young givers.  Imagine a generation of leaders shaped by an unwavering commitment to generosity.

In District 7030, our Interact Clubs are standing at the forefront of this vision, nurturing young people to lead with open hearts and hands. As our youth are encouraged to connect, support, and lead, they learn that giving is not a one-time act but a lifelong journey. By nurturing empathy and encouraging active participation, we are preparing the next generation to build a world grounded in compassion, understanding, and collective progress.

We celebrate World Interact Week this month and it is such a special time to honor our young Interactors, and the pivotal role that they play within our Rotary family. That culture of giving—championed by Rotary and embodied by The Rotary Foundation— can serve as a powerful model for all of our Interact clubs – 91 and counting! This not only empowers impactful service but also shapes the character of our young leaders, inspiring them to live purposefully.

Can we continue to honor that vision of giving from those who came before us, empower those who come after, and find joy in making a difference? The answer is yes - today and always.

Unite for Good!
