"Service Above Self" - selfless commitment to our community and to our fellow man - is the motto of all Rotary clubs around the world. The Rotary Club of Paramaribo is commemorating for the first time in Suriname the golden anniversary of Rotarian Henri Guda who celebrated 50 years in rotary on 15th June. Mr H.A.M. (Henri) Guda was inducted into the Rotary Club of Paramaribo fifty years ago in 1970 at the age of 36. Henri Guda became an active and involved Rotarian and was elected President of the Rotary Club of Paramaribo for the 1988/89 Rotary year. Eight years after this in 1997-1998 he became the first District Governor of Surinamese descent. Over the years, Rotarian Henri initiated many sustainable activities and community projects, including the Vocational Excellence Awards (V.E.A.), reactivating the National Art Fair (NK) and the annual sponsorship of the Christmas packages promotion of the Salvation Army.
