On Wednesday 23rd November 2016, at a joint meeting with the Rotary Club of Pointe-a-Pierre and with District Governor Roger Bose in attendance, the Rotary Club of Princes Town awarded a total of TT $75,000 (over US $11,000) to 9 students towards assisting them in pursuing their tertiary level studies. The students were past students of schools which fall under the Club’s jurisdiction - Biche High School, Tableland High School, Moruga Secondary School, Princes Town West Secondary School, Cowen Hamilton Secondary School and St. Stephen's College.
 
 
The recipients were Rehanna Ramharack (ABE Level 4), Jerome Campbelle (BSc Sports Studies), Shinika Taylor (BSc Public Sector), Emmanuel Pierre (BSc Biology), Sunita Sumchan (BSc Medicine), Cervon Cooper (BSc Medicine), Amy Ganpat (Doctor of Vetinerary Medicine), Amy Rambarran (Pharmacy Assistant) and Nicole Farrell (Actuarial Science).

At the presentation ceremony Club President Debbie Roopchand spoke of the Club’s commitment to assisting the youths of today who would be our leaders tomorrow with their educational advancement and wished the awardees every success with their studies.

Recipients Amy Ganpat, Amy Rambarran and Nicole Farell who attended St. Stephen's College were awarded the “Wayne Nanan Scholarship” so named in memory of Rotarian Wayne Nanan — a charter member of the Rotary Club of Princes Town and former student of St. Stephens College who passed away last year. The scholarship is in recognition of Rotarian Wayne’s long and outstanding contribution to the Club during his lifetime and his passion and commitment towards his former Alma Mata.

The scholarships to the students of St. Stephen's College totaled TT $20,000.00 and was contributed to by Rotarian Wayne’s wife Aneela Seunath and sons Dr. Stefan Nanan and Adrian Nanan who were present at the meeting and presented the cheques to the deserving students.

Proceeds from the Club’s recently concluded Chokha Fest in August 2016 were used towards funding the scholarship awards and the Club thanks its many supporters of this event through whom the grant was made possible.
