In October 2016, RC Princes Town set the bar in celebrating Diwali - the Hindu festival of lights - in the best Rotary traditions and demonstrated to other clubs in the District how to best work alongside and support your community.

On Saturday 22nd October 2016, the Club, as part of its ongoing efforts to assist communities under its jurisdiction, partnered with the Glud Road Community, Tableland to celebrate the occasion of Diwali. The celebrations started off with the conduct of prayers and lighting of deeyas at 6:00 p.m. At the start of the programme, Club President Debbie Roopchand expressed her delight at being in her hometown of Tableland and brought Diwali greetings behalf of the Club. The evening’s entertainment included the performance of religious songs with live instrumental accompaniment. A group of young female dancers executed a beautiful dance segment in the open air on the roadway and the residents to the delight of all attendees performed an interesting play made up on the spot, which focused on the abuse of alcohol and domestic violence. Rotarians also assisted in the selection of the Community's Diwali Queen who's crowning was one of the highlights of the evening. The Club who had given the Community a financial contribution of $2,000.00 towards the staging of the event, took the opportunity to treat over 45 children of the community with gifts and treat bags and distributed 10 Diwali hampers to residents.

The day before, Friday 21st October 2016, the Club hosted its annual Diwali celebration at Nia Valley Ranch, Princes Town. The event was well attended by Rotarians, their family members, friends and some of the members of the business community of Princes Town. After the lighting of deeyas, the programme, which was chaired by, Past President Jamir Ousman opened with a live rendition of the National Anthem on the steelpan by Kyle Ali. Club President Debbie Roopchand highlighted to the audience some of the good works carried out by the Club and made public the Club’s recent donation of $7,500 USD towards Haiti in recognition of the need to assist those in need, not only at a national level, but also at an international level. District Governor Roger Bose brought greetings on behalf of the District and shared some of his experiences during his term of office. The Club also took the opportunity to induct its newest member - Dr. Carlyn Rajnarinesingh.
